Before the ball dropped in 2013, I wrote a blog post on “The Awesomeness of 2013.” And it is true: 2013 was an amazing year. In that post I wrote:
“Someone asked me, “How is your 2014 going to top your 2013?” And I’m not quite sure, yet…”
Well, let me tell you-2014 outdid itself. I had the absolute best year I have had in a long time. Maybe ever. Of course there were ups and downs–there always are–with the biggest down being so far away from A for the last 8 months. But in reflecting on all of my adventures in 2014, I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing year.
As I did in 2013, this post is to reflect the great memories from the last year starting from the beginning, and I think it’s best told with pictures, so there will be a lot of them. (Of course there are blog posts on all of these events.)
January started off with a bang! On day 4 of the new year, Kim and I walked across Lake Monona from the Union to Picnic Point! And just two days later I had my first date with the most wonderful man I have ever known! (Of course, there are no official pictures of me and A until February.) Then I immediately flew down to Orlando with Cheryl and Michaela for the Disney Half-Marathon and to romp around Harry Potter World (it had been on the “to do” list!). Callie took agility classes, Mostly Harmless hosted our first flyball tournament, I went to my first UW basketball game with Allison, and there were lots more dates with A! And I can’t forget visiting my bestie and running my third marathon in Texas (trained entirely on a treadmill!). Whew, January was packed full of fun!
February brought ice-skating, roller derby, swim lessons and housesitting for Duncan. I had signed up for Team In Training and was running in the COLD. A and I had our first Valentine’s Day (celebrating with breakfast for dinner and UW Women’s Hockey!). There was the Frosty 5K, the Wildfeathers concert, agility with Envy, and a freestyle seminar with Callie. And I can’t forget the GOTR Sneaker Soiree!
And, boy, did a lot happen in March! I found out I would be running the NYC Marathon! A and I had our first date day: SNOW TUBING! I met A’s brothers, sister-in-law and parents for the first time. There was the ATHENA event, the Shamrock Shuffle, Camp Bingo and ZZ Ward concert. A and I started taking dance lessons. GOTR started back up again. Kelsey got engaged! AND I had my interview with RTI in North Carolina which meant I got to go to the Sweet Tea flyball tournie, see Cheryl, and run Bender a couple of times! Oh, and I turned 28!
April was awesome. I accepted a job with RTI! Ellie visited Madison and we ran our 5th annual birthday run (a 10 miler!)! A and I had our second date day: the Jelly Belly Factory! I’m training for the San Diego Marathon with TNT. A and I participate in the 50K Relay. There was our Runners for Boston Remembrance Run. I got an official tour of Epic with Allison from Michael! There was the Lydia Loveless concert, the Dirty Girl Mud Run and a surprise going away party from my flyball team! And on April 30, I make the ridiculously long drive from Wisconsin to Virginia!
May: I’m in North Carolina! A flew in on May 1 and had his first ever Chic Fil A experience! I am renting a house with a backyard! A meets my family in Atlanta, and we go to the Coca Cola Factory before dancing the night away at Tyler’s wedding seeing friends I hadn’t seen in years! Next there is John and Lisa’s wedding in Wisconsin. Shawn and I become running buddies with Shelley Lake being our usual spot. The pups come home after two weeks at Camp Patty’s. Cheryl and A both visit for Memorial Day weekend where we run the Stubborn Warrior 5K, hike in Umstead, play mini golf, and go to Lake Wheeler! On May 30 I fly to San Diego!
June started off with a bang–being in San Diego for the San Diego Marathon, meeting Meb and having a long weekend with A! I raised $3800 for Leukemia and Lymphoma. I got to meet Lisa and baby Java (one of Envy’s littermates) and Envy’s daddy, Keen. Callie turned 4 and Envy turned 1. Callie participated in her first disc dog event. I joined in on my first Girls’ night. I started INSANITY with K&T. Shawn had her first exhibition. We went to Greenville, SC for Jordan’s wedding. And I went up to Pennsylvania for the Coconut Classic flyball tournie!
July brought more fun my way! I flew up to Wisconsin to spend the 4th with Anthony and his family. His brother and sister-in-law had just gotten a pup! Cheryl and I drove down to Athens, GA for a flyball tournie that was SO much fun. Then I was back in Wisconsin for Country Jam–boy, that was a good line-up! Several of us picnic’d and watched a movie outside at the Museum of Art. And before I knew it July was over!
August! Anthony visited the first weekend in August–Farmer’s Market Brunch, a trip to the children’s museum and muddy pups! I got to experience the Wisconsin State Fair (cream puffs!), and we saw Lady Antebellum perform. We had a Girls’ Night with a really big chicken pot pie! Then GDG had their home tournie in Cary (Envy got to warm up!!), Kelsey had her bridal shower, and A and I traveled to Blacksburg for a VT football game!
Well, September began with me falling and fracturing my shoulder while running and fractured my shoulder (which still isn’t completely healed) on the day I left for ITALY! AMAZING trip with Cheryl! We had soooo much fun! Tanisha had a big birthday. I got to go to a puppy play date at Deb’s with two wonderful litters of puppies! I experienced dry needling for the first time. Ick. Anthony passed his ASA! Kelsey got married!! I PR’d in a 10-mile race, and DGF had their home tournie where Envy made her debut!!!
Whew! Then October was a whirlwind! Anthony turned 29 and ran his first marathon! I ran the Hokie Half-Marathon in Blacksburg in the rain with my crazy awesome supporters (Cheryl, Jennie and A) who stood out in the rain to cheer for me! Anthony and I did our first corn maze, experienced the NC State Fair, and ran the Chocolate 5K. I started watching The Walking Dead. We had our puppy beach weekend with Envy’s littermates! And then October was over!
Then on Halloween I flew up to NYC because on November 2 I ran the NYC Marathon! I got to see my friend Laura who I met while I was in Turkey. The following weekend, A and I drove to SC for Sara’s wedding reception where he got to meet a lot of my high school friends! And then I got to have dinner with two roomies from college! My Aunt Cindy came to town. A and I went to see lemurs and then went to the ArtSpace Gala with Shawn and Bob! AND I was in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with Cheryl! Talk about one heck of a month!
December! The first weekend of December I flew up to WI and had a date day with A: mini golf! We had a game night with several of his friends and we ran the Run, Santa, Run 5K with K and Z! Then we drove to Milwaukee to celebrate a mini-early Christmas with his family. Some of us went downtown to the Christmas tree lighting in Raleigh. Callie took a conditioning class. DGF had a flyball seminar. My office had two cookie exchanges (which I have decided I’m going to host one for friends next year!). We had a Christmas-giving when A came to town after seeing Gone Girl (Cards Against Humanity–it’s always a fun game!). We went to the NC History Museum. Then I drove to Columbia for Christmas, and my Mom, sister and I ran the Cold Winter’s Day 5K. Now, I’m back in Raleigh and A is flying in tonight to ring in 2015 with me!
So, that about sums up my 2014! Now you know why I can say that this is one of the best years I have ever had. It has been absolutely amazing. There aren’t words to describe it. I feel so blessed to have found such a wonderful man to share so many of my memories with. And I am so lucky to have such wonderful friends and a loving family.
I hope you reminisce on your 2014 and think of all the wonderful memories you’ve created in just a single year.
Cheers to you! Cheers to family and friendships and love and memories and travel and pictures and good food and fun times.
Cheers to an even better 2015! If that’s possible. 🙂
