Before the ball drops at midnight and I make all those New Year’s resolutions for 2014, I wanted to reflect on how amazing 2013 was for me. Of course there were ups and downs, but overall this year was pretty darn fantastic. And I learned so much about myself and grew as an individual.
Someone asked me, “How is your 2014 going to top your 2013?” And I’m not quite sure, yet, but I know it will because I am already thrilled about what I have planned for January!
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This post is to reflect the great memories from the last year starting from the beginning, and I think it’s best told with pictures, so there will be a lot of them. (Of course there are blog posts on all of these events.)
January is when I started my blog and myofascial therapy sessions (which are awesome!). I took yoga barre with Kim and a vertical core class with Jess. I participated in a Flyball Fun Day and a soup party! Anna visited from North Carolina!!
February brought a Mostly Harmless team dinner as well as a ridiculously fun girl’s night! Kim and I ran in a Valentine’s Day 5K and my college roommate, Rachel, visited!! Then I was off to South Africa to visit Sam and run in her school’s 5K before flying to Madagascar with her and Robyn for a week! O.M.G. Those memories are priceless!
With March came my ATHENA Award nomination as well my VT Dissertation Award and a trip to Blacksburg (yes, I wore the same dress to both events)! I got certified in CPR and First Aid. I took a photography class. Oh, and my 27th birthday happened!
And in April I got to travel to India for Sapna’s wedding which was absolutely unbelievable! It was also my first season of GOTR. It is the month I ran THE Boston Marathon (Ellie and Kim came to cheer me on!). And Ellie and I ran our 4th annual birthday run.
It finally started getting warmer in May when I returned from India!! Callie started her first agility class. And we participated in the May Amana flyball tournie (not complete without s’mores!) where Duncan got recognized for his Iron Dog!
In June, Callie and I took an Intro to Rally class with Riddle and Allison, and Callie turned 3!! We played in two flyball tournaments (Henry and Amana) and my GOTR girls had their 5K! I visited my grandfather in DC and went to see The Great Gatsby with Jess. I moved into a new apartment! And participated in Bike the Barns West with Kim and Zach as preparation for my Century Ride.
July brought drinks on the terrace, concerts in the square, our summer CSA, the Wollersheim Winery, a trip to Greenville for Dan’s wedding, the Dane County Fair and my first Aquathon! And Sam came home from Africa!!
In August, I went to Charlotte for Marice’s wedding, DC for a conference, and St. Louis for UFLI Nationals. I started physical therapy. Kath came to visit me in Madison and I ran with her for her first half marathon! And there is no way I could forget picking up my puppy, Envy!!!! And getting to meet her brother Moon at a Body Awareness seminar.
September brought season 2 of GOTR! I rode 100 miles on a bike with Kim at the Door County Century Ride! Envy started puppy classes! I went apple picking! Twice! I visited Ellie and Matt in Delaware and Becca’s farm!
October started out with a trip to Blacksburg to see Cheryl and watch VT play UNC in football! I ran with Cheryl and Michaela in the Homecoming 5K! October was $5 movie month so there were lots of movie dates! I had a 5K PR at Gilda’s Run and traveled to Indianapolis for CanAm. I also went to my first club in ages for Jess’ birthday after a proper birthday dinner, of course. 😉
November started off with the Hot Chocolate 5K with Allison in Chicago! There was the GOTR 5K, and I seriously started training for my next marathon. I house sat for the Williams-Osting’s, and went to the first showing of the Hunger Games in Madison. Envy saw her first snow. I traveled up to Eau Claire with Envy for Ann Braue’s puppy seminar, and we had the most amazing Friendsgiving! I also PR’d in the Berbee Derby 10K!
That brings us to December! December was full of decorating gingerbread houses, cold runs outside, the Jingle Bell 10K, UW hockey games and A Christmas Story at the Overture Center. And house sitting for the Williams-Osting’s, of course. I went home to Columbia, SC for the first time in a year which was sooo much fun! I got to see my family as well as friends from high school. The pups had fabulous lessons with Julie, and Envy got to have a play date with 3 of her littermates! And then I ended 2013 with another trip to Blacksburg to see Cheryl and run Callie in the NRR flyball tournament which was an absolute blast. And then Envy got to see her sister and mama again on our way back to Wisconsin! (I haven’t uploaded all the December pics yet!!)
You know what? I’m not sure how 2014 can top this absolutely wonderful year I’ve had, but I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for me! I am so thankful for all the friends I have made in Madison and all the friends I have stayed in touch with in other states over the last year. I hope you all can look back and think of the amazing experiences you have had this year as well.
I ended 2013 with a bang, and 2014 is going to start off with one! Cheers to an amazing year and to many more in the future!
